Stay where you are.
Do not panic or leave the scene of your accident; leaving the scene is one of the worst mistakes people make in these situations.
Move to a safe place that is out of the flow of traffic.
For example, if you’re on a highway or interstate, move to a safe shoulder where you and the other driver or drivers can be safe and not disrupt the flow of traffic.
Call the police.
No matter the size of the accident, you will want to make sure there is a proper police report. This legal documentation protects you and other involved drivers, no matter who is at fault.
Discuss the accident with the police and with your insurance company
—not the other drivers’ insurance companies, at least not right away. Do not admit fault.
Record the information listed below:
- The other driver’s license and insurance information;
- The contact information and names for the police officers who responded to the collision; and
- The contact information and names of any witnesses to the collision.
If your vehicle is drivable, come see us at either Sparkle Auto Body location as soon as possible.
